Epilepsy and seizure disorders represent a group of neurological conditions that result in unpredictable and often disabling seizures, which can have profound effects on quality of life. Diagnosis involves a detailed clinical assessment and advanced diagnostic tools such as EEG monitoring and functional imaging to localize seizure foci in the brain. Despite the availability of a variety of antiepileptic medications, many patients continue to experience uncontrolled seizures, highlighting the need for more targeted treatments. Emerging therapies in the field include responsive neurostimulation, deep brain stimulation, and novel pharmacological agents that aim to modify the underlying pathophysiology. Additionally, exploring the role of inflammation, genetic predisposition, and neuroplasticity in epilepsy is providing new insights into how to better manage and potentially cure these disorders.
